Texas

Tift says after a broken heart
You’re ready for a brand new start
And then
You can move on again
I call up all my friends
Talk about where we’ve been
And how
It was way back when

I make brand new plans
Allow time for my heart to mend
And time
For my mind to understand

But for now
Here I am
Thinking of you
You again
Drink down
To you my friend
It’ll be for what might have been

My heart belongs to Texas
that’s just the way it is
I’ll go
But it’s a place I will miss
Somethings just do not last
and you can’t live in the past
so now
I will raise up a glass

And now, Here I am
Thinking of you
You again
Drink down
To you my friend
It’ll be for what might have been

And my oh my
How the days go by
And everything seems to change
Everything’s here
Then everything’s there
And I’m forced to rearrange
But when I think of how
My life should be right now
I’m forced by the good Lord to just smile
And when I’m feeling down
‘cause I cannot figure it out
that’s alright I’ll get it in a while
that’s alright, man, I’ll get it in a while

But for now
Here I am
Thinking of you
You again
Drink down
To you my friend
It’ll be for what might have been

It's so wild that this is on your blog today! I was just reading back through my old journal yesterday (it would have been an anniversary) and read the day you sent this to me. It was so appropriate for the moment and is still appropriate now. Thanks for sharing your gift. Friend, you are truly talented. Keep writing!
